London Recording Studio — Lightship 95 Studio

LONDON’S FLOATING RECORDING STUDIO

Once a warning beacon in treacherous seas, Lightship 95 is now moored just of the River Thames and has been converted into a first-class London recording studio. It’s generously sized 10m x 5m live room, dedicated vocal booth, huge air-conditioned and port-holed control room and extensive acoustic treatment built deep in its steel hull never fail to impress. The space is extremely flexible - capable of accommodating anything from expansive jazz ensembles, through delicate string sessions to thunderously heavy rock and metal.

24 tracks of 2” tape, and 32 channels of I/O to Pro Tools, along with a Calrec S2 console and a selection of classic outboard provide ample tracking options for any session, whilst our unique collection of vintage instruments is always available to provide an extra musical dimension. Classic backline from Ludwig, Ampeg & Fender is provided at no extra cost.

Run by producers Dave Holmes and Giles Barrett, the studio caters to a diverse array of genres and musicians - see our previous recordings or live videos for more information. Previously incorporated within Soup Studios, Lightship 95 relaunched in 2021 as an independent London recording studio.

Console

Our Calrec S2 features 48 channels, with world-renown pre-amplifiers, and 8 aux sends to provide individual headphone mixes for the whole band.
Monitoring

Genelec 8050s provide crisp and precise midrange details, whilst the ribbon tweeters of the Adam A77xs offer a rich, warm sound to luxuriate in.
Otari MTR 90 mk II 24 track 2" tape machine

The possibilities of digital recording are now endless, but there is still a place for recording to a beautiful tape machine. Our hybrid setup allows us the flexibility to bring the flavour of tape to a session when the music invites it.
