Working at Lightship 95

Lightship 95 studio is an owner-operated studio, and our head engineers Dave Holmes and Giles Barrett run the majority of the sessions as well as overseeing the running of the studio. We are supported by an incredible group of assistants and engineers, though the unpredictable schedule of this part-time freelance work usually means we’re saying goodbye to these talented folk sooner than we are ready to. We’re incredibly grateful to the many applicants who approach the studio but are unable to respond to most due to the sheer volume of applications. We’d love to be able to hire an admin assistant, but our position in the industry means it’s simply not possible.  We have to focus on delivering world-class recording, mixing and mastering facilities at affordable prices for our artists and clients - most of whom are independent artists.

The best advice we can give to prospective applicants is to use the studio for your own projects. We keep our dry hire rates affordable, and getting to know the space and the equipment is the best preparation for working here on other sessions. When we look for engineers to work in the studio, anyone who has been working on their own projects here will be at the forefront of our mind. We also host a community of producers and composers in Studios 2 & 3 who share the space at evenings and weekends. When spaces are available for studio sharers we will advertise these on our Instagram page, and you can click here to find out more information about the writing studio in the tower.

Internships

We’ve been fortunate to host some fantastic young prospective engineers here in the past, many of whom have progressed to full time positions within the industry. We only accept applications from individuals who either have independent financial support (eg Erasmus programme) or for whom an internship will count as credit towards a degree or college programme. It’s also important that anyone who steps into a session has the sensitivity to be around artists in the midst of creation. It’s mainly for this reason that we don’t accept applications for work experience, only for internships for ages 18+. If you’re still interested in an internship and the above criteria sounds like you, email us via bookings@lightship95.com.
